Months

The Lotherrian New Year begins on November 1st when it comes to calendars, though in some societies, the new year begins culturally on November 2nd. The last day of the year is October 28th. This may seem like a bit odd, but it is notable due to the fact that Lotherria's year has 16 months instead of 12.

Every month is 28 days long. The months are as follows:

November

December

Torember

January

February

March

April

Sakuary

May

June

July

Mithrone

August

September

Havuary

October

The Winter Solstice is still on December 21st. March 21st is the Spring Equinox. Summer Solstice is June 21st, and the Autumn Equinox is September 21st.

Depending on the race/culture, there could be any number of special festivals, feasts, and holidays that can occur throughout the year. Not only are there racially cultural holidays but some locally cultural holidays as well, depending on town, village, or city.

When it comes to our holidays, there are celebrations in Lotherria that are similar. There are harvest festivals and Thanksgiving-like holidays, though there is no unified date for these. While Christmas or Chanukah (or other holidays) as we know it may not exist, there may be a similar holiday or festival in one or more cultures that take on the gift-giving and spirit of what these holidays mean, whether it be something natural, secular, celebrating ancient triumphs, celebrating great peoples, etc.

By now, it's probably understood that, with the four extra months, the seasons are also longer. The extra month for each season brings with it its own pros and cons. For instance, Havuary means a longer time to harvest crops, and a month where the temperature is getting cool at night but stays somewhat warm during the day. Torember is a month where the winter season drags on a little longer. In cold areas, this could mean more vulnerability to wintertime monstrous races and beasts. While December has the longest night of the year, having an added month of long, seemingly endless nights and terrible cold can be miserable. Sakuary is a month normally equally split between rain and cool, dryer weather, with May herlding in the warmer weather for the incoming summer. Mithrone is considered one of the hottest months of the year next to July. Of course, this is a general northern hemisphere year. Obviously, when it comes to the southern hemisphere, one would reverse this with their equinoxes and solstices being the opposite. However, how the seasons work in the south is very different due to a more tropical climate, so Havuary in the south is a month full of torrential rains and monsoons in the rainforests and flooding as well as generally rainy in the greener areas.
