Fauns

Fauns are humanoid creatures with cloven hooves. They can be commonly found living in the wilds and may sometimes have influence over some natural features in some way or other. They can also appear in mixed-race communities. They can also live together in tribes or villages or live solitary lives.

Fauns have different facial appearances. While the most common are those with animal heads, some are considered a more hybridized appearance of human and animal, though still often covered in fur. Fauns will sometimes have a whole body of fur and sometimes, they will have bare torsos aside from normal human body hair. So, don't be surprised if a faun has a smaller, flatter face or is one has hair instead of fur on their torsos.

Common Fauns

The common faun is the most recognized of the fauns. It is a tall creature with the torso of a man and the lower body and head of a goat, horns included. These horns can come in a range of styles. Some are even known to have two sets. They are very common in the wilds, males often living semi-solitary lives, but anxious to get together with males for celebrations, but primarily interested in females. Common fauns are known to want to create broad harems, and they aren't too picky. It is very common for a common faun to look outside of his own race when he's in the mood. Satyrs (hybrid offspring, though most notably human hybrids) are common among their other pure offspring.

Despite their flirtiness, common fauns do tend to hold a bit of wisdom, aware of the ways of the wilds (unless raised in a city). They are usually good at memorizing the location of resources. However, they can also be mischievous.

Fauns sometimes have special powers. These are usually an influence over plants or the ability to influence animals. These are not true, powerful commands, but they do serve as ways to communicate messages, give warnings, or to inflict fright or punishment in some small manner, sometimes just for the amusement of the faun.

Common fauns do not have a universal language of their own. They will speak a range of languages but, somehow always are able to learn Ertoudu, the common language of Lotherria.

Elkfauns

Elkfauns are known for living in the northern parts of the upper continents. These faun types are recognized for their flatter, slightly more human-like faces, however those faces are still elk-colored and have the makeup of a snout. They just don't normally have a full elk's head. They are known for being able to handle the frozen winters of the north with centuries of traditions and intuition. They are seen as very wise and are often sought to be teachers for other races in their villages, towns, or cities. They are generally well-respected.

Elkfauns live in very tightknit tribes, often living on traditions passed down through the generations. They have fantastic storytelling skills to pass down practical and spiritual lessons and consider themselves close to nature and a part of its balance. They are considered a good source for information or application of natural remedies, spiritual remedies, and practical magic, often through the use of potions and rituals.

Those in cities obviously have a more modern view of things to a point, as they must keep up with the world around them, though some do still have a soft spot for traditional things of some sort.

There are three different elkfaun languages, depending on the continent they live on.

Lordfauns

Lordfauns are fauns that have deer features, including antlers on males. Females do not have antlers. These are sometimes nicknames "Emperors of the Forest" for their majestic appearances. The official name of lordfaun is in relation to that. As the nickname suggests, they are often found in large forests. Their social structure really does depend on each lordfaun and where it lives. For instance, a truly wild lordfaun male may be overall solitary but live in a broad society with a Lord and a herd of lesser males and females. Sometimes, these herds are much closer, even village-like. Then, you have the completely civilized lordfaun that will work and live like any other humanoid in a town or city. Females stay close together, though in a town or city, they will find friends of other types. Marriages of the different lifestyles can vary, with a wild lordfaun having several mates to city lordfauns having one that they are with consistently. Like common fauns, they are sometimes said to fall in love easily.

Lordfauns do not have a universal language. they will speak different languages depending on family and location. However, they are always able to learn Ertoudu.

Minotaurs

Despite the suffix "taur" meaning "bull," minotaurs are not true taurines, as taurines are single-hooved creatures, again, despite the name. As a cloven-hooved creature, minotaurs are technically considered fauns in Lotherria, although it is the only faun to not be a pellet-pooper.

Minotaurs have a universal language, though dialects may be different depending on their location. They are most prominent in Kalthar, where they are considered the majority race. They live in their own towns and cities, and work together in close communities. They are usually loyal and make great smiths, soldiers, and bodyguards. They also usually make loyal mates.

While they are large and strong in appearance, they do seem to have an extra boost in strength. It's considered a magical boost in their species, so they are indeed stronger than they appear.

Moosetaurs

Like the minotaur, despite the suffix of "taur," the moosetaur is not a taurine. A moose is a type of dear and the moosetaurs are a cloven-hooved creature, setting it firmly as a type of faun.

Moosetaurs seem similar in nature to elkfauns, as in they live in tightknit tribes or villages, usually in the cooler and/or mountainous regions. It is a matriarchal society with the tribe or village led by an elder female. Males and females both sport antlers. They are seen as wise and nurturing. It is common in the areas where they are very plentiful for other villages, towns, or cities to hire them as nannies or teachers for those just starting school.

They do also have skills in herbalism, practical magic, and spiritual well-being. Moosetaurs are known to make great potions and protective talismans.

Sheepfauns

Sheepfauns are basically fauns that have sheep features. They live in villages or small towns, sometimes with common fauns, and live civilized lives. Each town is led by a ram that governs over them.

Sadly, not much else is known about this race at this time, as they have not been fully developed. Keep checking back for updates!
